3. Vegetarian Buffet, night market food district
Pay 15000 LAK and you can fill your plate to the maximum with any of their vegetarian dishes, desserts, fruits. You can only go one time, if you need to refill you’ll pay again.Very popular with loud backpackers. Go early or late to avoid the crowds.
2. Noodle soups at Toutu Restaurant
Open from early morning to late evening, it became my daily breakfast place. Their Khao Soi noodles are delicious. Khao Soi is a specialty in Luang Prabang, very different from the Khao Soi you can have in northern Thailand. The owner is very friendly when you’re a return customer.
1. Dinner by the Mekong at Tamarind Tree Restaurant
Tamarind Tree is the cheapest of the many restaurants overlooking the Mekong. The menu is huge, many vegetarian options, and plenty of dishes below 15000 LAK. Their shakes are the best and cheapest in town. Try the dragon fruit! The view is fantastic for the price. The cashier is a sleepy old lady who’s unable to crack a smile at first, but when you come back for the third time she’s a really different person and you’re welcome like family. Favourite place in town!
